Stock Car Racer Dragged Down Track By Rival After

Auto racing fans are conditioned to expect just about anything when they arrive at a race. While each race concludes with a driver in victory lane, there is always the chance of seeing other drama unfold. There are those that say that many fans go to a race to see the wrecks. Danger is a part of the sport, for both driver and fans alike. Fisticuffs have also become part of the lore of racing. This has mostly been seen in stock car racing. In fact, it was the famed dust up between Cale Yarborough and the Allisons that elevated NASCAR to what it is today. Nowadays, it is not unusual to see a driver reach into a window and throw a punch. Heck, there have even been a few helmets and other objects hurled in the name of upset. What happened recently at a late-model stock car race in North Carolina though takes the cake. The incident took place at Bowman Gray Stadium, where drivers Mike Robertson and Derek Stoltz had a typical stock car incident. As the two were competing for position, Stoltz collided with Robertson, which sent Robertson towards the wall. Robertson hit the wall good, putting him out of the running for a win. As one might expect, Robertson did not take kindly to the gesture and made his way towards Stoltz’s car. Stoltz was idling, waiting for the track clean up and the green flag to drop. Robertson is not the first guy to walk on the track and start a verbal confrontation with another driver. But this flare up had more fireworks to come. As Robertson started to make his way towards the car, Stoltz swerved the car towards his angry opponent. That is a stunt that is not seen often on track. Robertson became enraged and grabbed hold of the driver’s side window. Stoltz evidently had seen enough at that point. He stepped on the gas and started rolling down the track. He reached a speed of between 20 and 30 miles per hour, with Robertson holding on for dear life. Stoltz started to head for the wall, which would have stuck Robertson like a bug on the side of the car. Robertson could see the car heading towards the wall, which made him finally let go. He rolled to a stop against the wall. Stoltz would go on to win the race. In the end, the incident proved the adage that anything can happen when good ole boys get together to do stock car racing!
